Painting glass

the idea that has born absolutely accidentally while, still in last years of a high school, design classes watching other students making some stained-glasses. Thus, why not to try myself? It was one more chance to bring more colors into a life – mine, my friends, and my family. Since 2004 many works went to friends and friends of friends as gifts not only in Lithuania, but also in Germany, Italy, Spain, China and some other countries.

Why bottles? Even though it is technically much more difficult to make paintings on bottles than on any other flat surface such as a photo frame or painting, but for me, a green-hearted person, it’s the manner to give one more chance, let’s call it the second life, to things around us that usually go directly to rubbish bin. Moreover, it’s a way to bring some creativity and more colors to our lives.

In some way, I also attempt to bring my modest contribution to help our Mother Earth to deal with unstoppable consumption. I cannot forget a quote from some history review I read some years ago that when ancient civilizations disappeared, they left for their descendant art and architectural heritage. Unfortunately, we for our children will leave tons of rubbish and devastated land.

Furthermore, it somehow one more chance to reveal the beauty of colorful glasses that were already used 1200 BC in Egypt, the Rome Empire and Phoenicia. Although today mostly understood as technique used for church windows and nearly always forgotten its d’art function.

In short, each piece you find in this blog is made with special dedication, adapting to the original shapes of the bottle and always with love and personal touch. No two similar pieces can be found although the style remains light and elegant.

Welcome colours into your life!

With love,

– G.Š.
